Top riders
The event is again this year presenting a great competitor field which will guarantee spectacular top sport.

For Belgium will, among others, multiple champion Jos Lansink and Olivier Philippaerts, twin brother of last year Longines Trophy winner Nicola, travel to Maastricht. The Belgian riders were very successful last year, winning five classes.

France will send the popular Roger-Yves Bost “Bosty”, the 2013 European Champion and winner of team gold at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. He will be joined by the 40-year-old Julien Epaillard.

Germany will be represented by top riders Ludger Beerbaum and Marcus Ehning. Beerbaum won two individual European titles and four with the German team. He won a gold team medal twice during World Championships and the individual Olympic title in 1992 with his legendary mare Ratina Z. He won three Olympic gold medals with the German team. Marcus Ehning also has a long list of victories. He won the World Cup three times and four European gold medals the German team and team gold at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney and at the World Championships in Lexington (2010). The 23-year-old ‘rising star’ Laura Klaphake completes the German contingent. She was the star at the CHIO Aachen and made her European Championship debut in Gothenburg this year.

The host nation is strongly represented as well. Top riders such as Jeroen Dubbeldam, Gerco Schröder and Jur Vrieling, who recently won the World Cup qualifier in Helsinki, will be competing in the MECC. They will be joined by a number of strong Limburg riders: Sanne Thijssen, Lisa Nooren and Michel Hendrix. Michel: “I already came here when I was very young to watch my uncle Emile and now I compete here myself. I ride at many events, but it is a kind of special to compete here, in front of the home crowd.”

After a long time Luciana Diniz, the Brazilian who rides for Portugal, will return to the arena in Maastricht. The popular rider, who won this year’s Grand Prix of Chantilly and was runner-up in the prestigious Grands Prix of Aachen and Spruce Meadows, is looking forward to JIM: “I have good memories of JIM. I am looking forward to compete again in the MECC. I have heard a lot of positive things about the organisation and the facilities.”

Rolf-Göran Bengtsson (Sweden), Denis Lynch (Ireland) and Switzerland’s Romain Duguet will also compete in Maastricht.
