The first class on Friday evening was the Kankeronderzoekfonds Limburg Prize (Cancer Research Fund Limburg Prize). This special class was an initiative of Jan Huynen, Health Foundation, AZM (Academisch Ziekenhuis Maastricht) and JIM. During the competition one of the fences was used like a joker and every rider was asked to donate €50 when he had a clear jump of this fence.

The amount could be doubled by a sponsor and/or guest. All riders jumped the fence without faults and they all donated €50 which resulted in a total amount of €1,600. The final total amount will be announced on a later date.

British legend John Whitaker won the class with the 10-year-old Holsteiner stallion Castlefield Cristobal ahead of Holland’s Ben Schröder with Complemento ( HANN, Contender x Voltaire). Belgium’s Gilles Dunon was clear but 5 seconds slower with Wesselina (KWPN, Cumano x Mytens) to finish in third.
