The last and main competition on Friday was the VDL Groep Prize, a Table A, 1.50m, with jump-off and a qualification for the Longines Trophy-Grand Prix of Maastricht. Out of the 43 combinations, 13 returned to the jump-off which was won in a spectacular way by Frenchman Julien Epaillard.
The USA’s Wilton Porter was first to go in the jump-off and rode a controlled and fast round in 36.50 seconds with his 10-year-old Holsteiner stallion Caletto Cabana (Cassini I x Capecanaveral). Porter was followed by Wout-Jan van der Schans, Lisa Nooren en Albert Zoer but they did not succeed in improving his time until Frank Schuttert stopped the clock at 36.37 with Chianti’s Champion (Westf., Champion du Lys). Schuttert did enjoy his lead for a very long time as Julien Epaillard was next to go. Epaillard rode full speed and steered his 13-year-old Holsteiner gelding Cristallo A LM (Casall x Corofino) at high speed through the course and 32.61 seconds was the result. After that it was Spain’s Manuel Fernandez Saro who was the only one to stay clear. He stopped the clock at 35.39 seconds with his 13-year-old Westphalian gelding Cannavaro 9 (Cornet Obolensky x Florestan I) and finished runner-up.
