After a thrilling jump-off Ireland’s Bertram Allen won the Longines Trophy – Grand Prix of Maatricht. Holland’s Gerco Schröder finished runner-up with his tall grey Glock’s Cognac Champblanc. Young Kim Emmen surprised everybody by finishing third with Delvaux.

Bertram Allen was very satisfied with his performance and his horse Gin Chin van het Lindenhof (BWP, Chin Chin x Calido I). “It was the first time I competed here and I was impressed by the show. I am riding Gin Chin for about a year now. He is a very experienced horse. He did very well on Friday and Saturday and today he was just great.”

Kim Emmen was second to go in the first round of the Longines Trophy and was the first one to stay clear. It took a while before the next clear round. Frank Schuttert, 23rd to go, secured a jump-off. Five more combinations managed to stay clear, among them Bertram Allen. Course designer Louis Konickx was happy with the running of the competition. “Especially the jump-off was great. It was a relatively long course with eight obstacles, long lines and many turns. The result was great sport.”

Kim Emmen opened the jump-off with a clear smooth round. The three following riders crossed the finish line with faults. Ireland’s Bertram Allen showed that it could be done faster. Gerco Schröder gave it all to beat Allen’s time, but had to settle for second place.

Show director Frank Kemperman was very satisfied with this year’s edition. Over 20,000 spectators visited the show in Maastricht.
