Jumping Indoor Maastricht, to be held from 4 to 6 November, has received the first entries for the international show jumping classes. Top names that are promising a great field of competitors.

Besides Limburg pride Sanne Thijssen, Maikel van der Vleuten will travel to the MECC with three horses. Maikel needs no introduction. He won an individual bronze medal at this year's World Championships in Herning, Denmark, and also at the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo. Maastricht is special for Maikel for several reasons. "I remember well the 'father and son' competitions I got to compete in with my father (Eric). I always looked forward to that immensely. And of course winning the Maastricht Grand Prix twice in a row, in 2013 and 2014. Those were super nice victories."
Maikel is coming to Maastricht with three horses. "I will take one of my top horses for the Grand Prix, which will probably be the 10-year-old Elwikke. She has also performed very well at big events this year and I want to make a serious attempt to win the Grand Prix of Maastricht. I will also take two eight-year-old stallions. One who can gain some experience in the Small Tour in the MECC and one who already has more experience and can compete in the Big Tour on the second day. That way I can spare my horse who will run in the Grand Prix a bit so he can perform well on Sunday."

Top foreign riders
The winner of the very first Maastricht Grand Prix, German 'altmeister' Ludger Beerbaum, has also agreed to start at the MECC. This top German rider has already won a lot in his impressive career. He was Olympic champion in Barcelona in 1992 and European champion in 1997 and 2001.
Our southern neighbours will be represented, among others, by Gregory Wathelet, who won team bronze at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics and at the 2019 European Championships. Wathelet also won the prestigious Rolex Grand Prix of Aachen in 2017.
The "grand lady" of US show jumping, Laura Kraut, has also put Maastricht on her schedule. The 46-year-old rider, who is married to British legend Nick Skelton, has a long list of victories including a team gold medal at the 2008 Olympics (Hong Kong) and the 2018 World Championships (Tryon).

These few names already guarantee show jumping at the very highest level at Jumping Indoor Maastricht.
