Jumping Indoor Maastricht 2024

This year Jumping Indoor Maastricht will be organised from 8 till 10 November. JIM offers top sport with, among others, the FEI Driving World Cup and the Grand Prix of Maastricht combined with the Limburg hospitality. An event for the whole family!

Maikel van der Vleuten fastest in Longines Trophy
The last class of Jumping Indoor Maastricht was the prestigious Longines Trophy. The chronograph of the Conquest Classic collection was for Dutch rider Maikel van der Vleuten and VDL Groep Sapphire B (s. Mr. Blue). Eleven out of the forty competitors made it to the jump-off. Rider after rider sharpened the time, but no one could beat Maikel van der Vleuten. He made a turn no one thought was possible and it worked out for him. Maikel: "Beforehand I had discussed the turn to the right after the oxer with my father, but when I came into the arena it almost seemed too short. Fortune was on my side and everything fitted like a glove."

Jessica Kürten wins Mecc Prize
Sunday afternoon Jessica Kürten and the 8-year-old Contadoor (s. Carving) won the Mecc Prize in Maastricht. The combination scored the maximum of 44 points in this accumulator at 1.40m level with joker in a time of 40,60 seconds. Jessica: "Contadoor is still young, but I noticed he was really thinking along. Of course I jumped the joker fence, you have to do that in order to win. Contadoor is a son of Carving, I have competed with him at Grand Prix level. I think the son will surpass his father, he has scope and is really careful". The Latvian rider Kristaps Neretnieks finished second with Con Pleasure (s. Cornet Obolensky), Harrie Smolders rode Exquis Powerfee (v. Fedor) to a third place.

Audi Prize for Wout-Jan van der Schans and Sacramento
The last class of today was the Audi Prize at 1.50m level. Ten out of the 46 combinations made it to the jump-off. In the first round, the combination in the last line of the first round caused most of the casualties. All riders rode their jump-off to win, which lead to exciting sport. Wout-Jan van der Schans and the 13-year-old Sacramento (s. Leendert) won the class. This combination has already won several ranking classes this indoor season. Wout-Jan: "Sacramento is currently in shape and because of that I could go really fast. However, tomorrow I will start Cape Town in the Grand Prix. Right now I have all the luck that I have two horses that can compete at this level."

Jur Vrieling and Sissi van ’t Schuttershof in a winning mood
After their victory on Friday night, Jur Vrieling and his mare Sissi van 't Schuttershof also won the 1.40m speed and handiness class, the Limburg Prize. A speed and handiness class guarantees sensation, also tonight. Jur: "I had seen Jos Verlooy's round and it was really quick, I knew Leon Thijssen had to start after me, and he is always one to watch. I had to give it all and fortunately it paid of, for the second time."

Leon Thijssen came in second with Ulena (s. Baloubet du Rouet), Jos Verlooy finished third with The Pugilist (s. VDL Douglas).

Victory for John Whitaker in the L1 prize
John Whitaker was the third to go in the 1.40m table A against the clock. The experienced British rider rode Lord of Arabia, a 9 yr old Cassini II more than 7 seconds faster than runner up Jos Lansink with Ensor de Litrante LXII. It is no surprise that John is fast but today the difference was enormous. John: "I went for it from the start en I managed to take the two short turns. Lord of Arabia is very careful so I can go fast and turn short. I'm riding him now for 1,5 year and we were already quite successful. I think he is going to be a Grand Prix horse but to reach that level I need some more time."

Laurens van Lieren wins Knock-Out Dressage
Jumping Indoor Maastricht proved to be innovating, with the Knock-Out Dressage test this afternoon. Wim Ernes found inspiration in Helsinki and together with Frank Kemperman developed it into the Knock-Out. Four riders mirrored each other in the arena in a short test at Grand Prix level of only two minutes. The second round was for the 3rd and 4th place and the final round for the 1st and 2nd place. The victory was for Laurens van Lieren with Ulysses La Haya, when he knocked Jana Kun and Transpofix Vainqueur 'out'. Laurens: "Ulysses La Haya is a 12-year-old KWPN mare by Gribaldi out of the full sisther of Ferro. She has a lot of talent, I hope that next year I can show her full potential." The organisers, members of the jury and the riders were all positive about the test. It will probably need some alterations here and there, but it certainly looks like this is interesting for the dressage sport in the future."

Timothy Hendrix and Very Nice win for own audience
Tonight forty-six riders started in the Hair Science Institute Prize, which was designed by Louis Koninckx. No less than 17 combinations made it to the jump-off in the 1.50m class. The victory was for the Limburger Timothy Hendrix with Very Nice, an 11-year-old KWPN gelding by Cantos. Timothy has already been riding Very Nice for six years: "Very Nice is a very quick horse, but I think that I won because of my turn from fence two to eight. Winning this prize is extra special for me. It is already the third time for me in Maastricht and to win in this edition for an own audience in this edition is fantastic."

Veteran Jean André Souvereyns wins Dagblad De Limburger Prijs
He might have been the oldest of his class, but nonetheless he showed his younger colleagues how it's done. In the winning round of the Z/ZZ-class (1.30m/1.35m) Souvereyns was clear in 47,28, whilst he steered his KWPN mare Ulin Verte (by Lux) without a bit. Souvereyn already won the Belgian Championship for Veterans five times and after tonight he can add a new ribbon to his collection.

Jur Vrieling wins Chapeau Magazine Prijs
Jumping Indoor Maastricht opened this afternoon with the first international class. The victory in this 1.40m competition was for Jur Vrieling with Sissi van 't Schuttershof. This 11-year-old SBS mare by Nabab de Reve is a full sister to the well-known stallion Kashmir van 't Schuttershof. Friends of Jur bought the mare as a filly and produced several foals out of her by embryotransfer. After this they showed her in national competitions and as a 7-year-old she went to Jur Vrieling. Jur:"I have already won a lot of competitions with Sissi, she very quick and you really need that in a class like this. Today nine riders all clocked within less than a second from each other, it was really close. I think that everybody is glad that Jumping Maastricht is back on the international calendar, the organisation is very good and already from the beginning there is a super ambiance."

Old stars in All Stars
Saturday evening there will be a return of 'old stars' in the All Stars rubrieken. Four old jumping legends will return in the saddle to show that they still know how to ride!

International top in Maastricht
The first international class of Jumping Indoor Maastricht will start coming Friday afternoon. After two years of absence, this international event is back in the saddle and proves to be a venue where the best riders from the international circuit can compete.
