Fourteen combinations stayed clear in the first round and qualified for the jump-off of the VDL Groep Prix on Friday evening, a qualification for the Longines Trophhy – Grand Prix of Maastricht on Sunday afternoon. They all went for the victory and the provided the public with a thrilling jump-off. Finally it was Germany’s Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum who won the competition with Calle (Westf, Carell x Capitalist). Meredith won the Grand Prix of Maastricht before in 1992. Runner-up was Irish top rider Bertram Allen with the BWP gelding Gin Chin van het Lindenhof (Chin Chin x Calido I). Harrie Smolders finished in third place with Zinius (KWPN, Nabab de Reve x Kannan) and was therefore the best Dutch rider in this class.
The second qualifier for the Longines Trophy, the Van Mossel Automotive Prix, will be held on Saturday evening, at 6.30 pm.
